APRIL 25 IS ITALIAN LIBERATION DAY

During the post-war period the then Italian Prime Minister, Alcide de Gasperi, declared that the date of April 25 would be a national holiday: Italian Liberation Day.

Normally this date is marked each year by numerous events all over the country.

This year will be different. No colourful celebrations. No parades on the streets.

In its place, one wish. The wish that this year Italy be liberated once more. The enemy is different. This enemy is silent but lethal. The results have been devastating.

In the coming weeks Italians hope to be able to return to work once more. They hope to leave their houses and see their friends again.

This will be the liberation to be celebrated this year.

Happy Liberation Day, Italy.

The blog will return on April 27th. See you then!!
